PCB Considers Hybrid Model for Champions Trophy 2025 to Accommodate India
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly open to a hybrid hosting model for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, allowing for India’s participation by hosting some matches in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
According to a report from the PTI, this arrangement would permit India to play its matches in Dubai or Sharjah if the Indian government does not authorize the team to travel to Pakistan.
A PCB source revealed, “The PCB feels that even if the Indian government does not clear the tour to Pakistan, slight adjustments can be made to the schedule, as in all probability India would play its matches in Dubai or Sharjah.”
ICC Urged to Announce Champions Trophy Schedule
The PCB is reportedly pressing the International Cricket Council (ICC) to finalize and announce the Champions Trophy schedule by November 11, coinciding with a planned visit by top ICC officials to Lahore. The PCB has already shared a proposed schedule and budget adjustments with the ICC, highlighting the feasibility of a hybrid model.
“The PCB has discussed with the ICC the tentative schedule sent some months back and expects it to be released on November 11,” the source added.
Key Match Scheduled Between India and Pakistan
According to the proposed schedule, the high-stakes match between rivals India and Pakistan is slated for March 1, 2025, in Lahore, with Pakistan set to open the tournament on February 19 against New Zealand in Karachi. The tournament’s final match is scheduled for March 9 at Lahore’s iconic Gaddafi Stadium.
The Champions Trophy, set to make its return in 2025, last took place in 2017, and the PCB’s willingness to adopt a hybrid model highlights its commitment to ensuring a smooth and inclusive event despite geopolitical hurdles.
