Patna HC Orders Removal of AI Video of PM’s Mother
Patna High Court has directed the Congress party to remove an AI-generated video featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s late mother, Heeraben Modi, from all social media platforms. The bench said the clip “violates Article 21” of the Constitution, which protects privacy and dignity.
Intermediary platforms including Meta, Google India, and X (formerly Twitter) have also been instructed to stop further circulation of the video until further orders.
What the Video Shows
The 36-second clip, posted by the Bihar Congress unit, depicts PM Modi dreaming of his late mother, who appears to criticize his political style. The video carried the label “AI GENERATED.”
Reactions and Legal Implications
The BJP condemned the video, calling it shameful and disrespectful. A complaint was filed by BJP leader Sanket Gupta, accusing the Congress of defaming PM Modi and his mother.
The Court’s intervention highlights growing concerns about the misuse of AI to create political content that infringes on privacy, dignity, and ethical standards in election campaigns.
