Parameshwara And Siddaramaiah Back Shivakumar For CM If Party Decides Change

Karnataka Congress leaders G. Parameshwara and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah have indicated support for D. K. Shivakumar becoming Chief Minister if the party high command opts for a leadership change. Parameshwara said he would “fully accept” Shivakumar as CM if the Congress decides on a transition. Siddaramaiah added that he is willing to continue only as long as the party wants him to.

Power-Sharing Debate Resurfaces

The remarks have reignited discussions over a possible mid-term power transition. When the Congress formed the government in 2023, there were widespread expectations of a power-sharing formula between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar, though the party never officially confirmed such an arrangement. Growing pressure from Shivakumar’s supporters has brought the issue back into the spotlight.

High Command Expected To Take Call

Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge is expected to take the final decision. Party sources suggest both Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar may be called to Delhi for consultations ahead of the winter session of Parliament. The leadership is believed to be weighing political stability, factional balance and governance performance before deciding.

Stakes High For Party And Government

A leadership change could help manage internal factional demands but may also trigger discontent within sections of the party. Analysts say uncertainty over the Chief Ministership has begun to affect governance perceptions as the government crosses the midpoint of its term.
