Param Sundari Review: A Breezy Rom-Com That Trips Over Its Own Clichés ★★½ (2.5/5)

As we stepped out of Param Sundari, we were left with the impression of a film that dazzles in patches but struggles to find real depth. The setup had us intrigued—Sidharth Malhotra as Param, a Delhi boy who believes in algorithms when it comes to love, paired with Janhvi Kapoor as Sundari, a Malayali woman firmly rooted in tradition. On paper, the North-South cultural clash promised humor and heart, and at times the film delivered exactly that.

What stayed with us most was the visual richness. The Kerala backwaters and landscapes are captured beautifully, often becoming more memorable than the story itself. The soundtrack by Sachin–Jigar adds a layer of charm, with Pardesiya standing out as a song that we found ourselves humming long after the film ended. In its lighter moments, Param Sundari feels breezy and entertaining.

But the more we watched, the more we noticed the cracks. The narrative leans too heavily on clichés and stereotypes, recycling ideas we’ve already seen in films like Chennai Express and 2 States. The much-hyped idea of algorithmic romance barely makes a mark, leaving us wishing the film had committed more strongly to something new.

In terms of performances, Sidharth Malhotra carries the film with his easy charm, making Param likeable even when the writing falters. Janhvi Kapoor brings elegance to her role, but her dialogue delivery and diction at times felt uneven, which pulled us out of the experience. The humor, too, often felt forced—some jokes worked, but many fell flat. The emotional highs that we expected from a rom-com of this scale never quite arrived.

By the time the credits rolled, we were left with a sense of mild satisfaction rather than genuine delight. Param Sundari is not without its moments of warmth, but it’s also weighed down by predictability and surface-level storytelling. It works as casual comfort viewing, but it isn’t the kind of film that will linger in memory.

Final Rating: ★★½ (2.5/5)
