Pakistan Warns of Possible War With India
Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has said that the country “cannot rule out an all-out war” with India and claimed that Pakistan’s armed forces remain on “full alert.” He stated that Islamabad neither trusts New Delhi nor dismisses the possibility of hostile actions, including alleged cross-border strategies and regional destabilisation attempts.
Background to Rising Tensions
Asif’s remarks come at a time of heightened strain between the two neighbours, following weeks of sharp political statements and military posturing. Pakistan has accused India of supporting elements operating from Afghan territory, though India has not acknowledged any such involvement. The minister’s warning reflects deep concern within Islamabad about India’s evolving defence posture and regional initiatives.
Diplomatic and Security Impact
The comments have raised fresh alarm in South Asia’s already fragile security landscape. Analysts suggest the warning may be aimed at signalling deterrence rather than indicating any imminent conflict. However, the public escalation complicates the space for diplomatic dialogue. India is expected to factor these statements into its strategic calculus as both countries face pressure to avoid miscalculation.
