Pakistan Train Hijacking Ends; 21 Hostages, 4 Troops Dead
A deadly train hijacking in Pakistan’s Balochistan province has ended after a military operation that resulted in the deaths of 21 hostages and four security personnel. The attack, carried out by separatist militants, unfolded on March 11, 2025, when the Jaffar Express was ambushed, leading to a hostage crisis that lasted several hours before the military successfully intervened.

The Jaffar Express, which was traveling from Quetta to Peshawar with around 440 passengers, was targeted by armed militants who detonated explosives on the railway tracks, forcing the train to stop inside a tunnel. The attackers, identified as members of a separatist group, then stormed the train, opening fire and taking passengers hostage. The train’s driver was among those killed during the initial assault.
The group behind the attack is known for its insurgency in Balochistan, demanding greater autonomy and the release of political prisoners. The hijackers threatened to execute hostages unless their demands were met, escalating tensions as security forces launched a response.
Military Launches Rescue Operation
