Pakistan Security Forces Eliminate 30 ‘Khwarij’ Terrorists in South Waziristan

In a decisive move against terrorism, Pakistani security forces carried out an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Sararogha area of South Waziristan district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The operation targeted the reported presence of ‘Khwarij’, a term used by Pakistani authorities to describe terrorists affiliated with the outlawed Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the military, the mission resulted in the elimination of 30 terrorists. The ISPR stated, “During the conduct of operation, own troops effectively engaged the khwarij location, as a result of which, thirty khwarij were sent to hell.” This successful counter-terrorism operation underscores the commitment of Pakistan’s security forces to eradicating terrorism from the region.

Ongoing Counter-Terrorism Efforts

The recent operation in South Waziristan is part of a broader strategy to curb militant resurgence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In January 2025, security forces launched multiple operations across the province, leading to the elimination of 30 terrorists in three separate engagements. These preemptive measures are crucial in securing the areas bordering Afghanistan, where militants have historically orchestrated attacks within Pakistan.

The ISPR emphasized the ongoing nature of these efforts, stating, “Sanitization operation is being conducted to eliminate any other Kharji found in the area as the security forces of Pakistan are determined to wipe out the menace of terrorism from the country.” With continued vigilance, Pakistan aims to prevent the re-establishment of militant networks and ensure the safety of civilians.

Regional Security Implications

The neutralization of ‘Khwarij’ elements in South Waziristan carries significant security implications for Pakistan and the broader region. The TTP, despite being allied with the Afghan Taliban, operates as a separate entity and has intensified attacks inside Pakistan since the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan in 2021.

Pakistani authorities use the term ‘Khwarij’ to describe these militants, highlighting their extremist ideology and deviation from mainstream Islamic principles. By eliminating these terrorists, Pakistan has disrupted their operational capabilities, delivering a severe blow to insurgent factions. This operation sends a clear message that Pakistan remains determined to combat terrorism and uphold regional stability.
