Pakistan Says Talks Underway To Sell Fighter Jets

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said several countries are actively engaged in discussions with Islamabad to acquire its fighter jets. He made the statement while addressing a cabinet meeting, describing the talks as a sign of growing international interest in Pakistan’s defence manufacturing capabilities.

Focus On JF-17 Aircraft

The discussions are understood to centre on the JF-17 Thunder, a multi-role fighter aircraft jointly developed by Pakistan and China. The jet is already in service with the Pakistan Air Force and has been exported to a limited number of countries. Any additional exports would require coordination with China due to its role in the programme.

Economic And Strategic Impact

Sharif said potential export deals could strengthen Pakistan’s defence industry and provide an economic boost through manufacturing and technology development. Officials have indicated that negotiations are at different stages and that final agreements would depend on commercial terms and regulatory approvals.

Cautious Outlook

The government did not disclose the names of interested countries or timelines for potential deals. Defence analysts note that arms export talks often take time and may not always result in confirmed orders.
