Pakistan Reports 25 Militants, 5 Soldiers Killed At Afghanistan Border
The Pakistani military has confirmed that five of its soldiers were killed and 25 militants were neutralised in clashes near the Pakistan–Afghanistan border over the weekend. The incidents took place in the volatile North Waziristan and Kurram districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
Details Of The Clashes
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the fighting broke out when heavily armed groups attempted cross-border infiltration. In North Waziristan, 15 militants, including four suicide attackers, were killed in an encounter with Pakistani troops. Another clash in Kurram district left 10 militants dead. Security forces also recovered weapons, ammunition and explosive materials during the operations.
Diplomatic And Security Context
The clashes come as Pakistan and Afghanistan are engaged in dialogue to reduce rising tensions along the frontier. Islamabad has accused Kabul of allowing militants to use Afghan territory for cross-border strikes, while Afghan authorities have denied such claims.
Implications Ahead
The fresh violence has cast a shadow over ongoing negotiations and raised questions about the effectiveness of ceasefire efforts. Analysts believe that recurring infiltration attempts could deepen mistrust and complicate peace talks between the two neighbours.
