Pakistan Pleaded Ceasefire in Operation Sindoor – India at UNGA
India used its Right of Reply at the UN General Assembly to counter Pakistan’s claims about Operation Sindoor, stating that Pakistan’s military had pleaded for a cessation of hostilities during the operation.
India’s Version
India said that in early May 2025, Pakistan asked India to stop fighting after Indian strikes had degraded militant infrastructure. According to India, the request came amid pressure on Pakistan’s forces as the operation progressed.
Nature of Operation Sindoor
Operation Sindoor was India’s response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, in April 2025, which killed 26 civilians. The operation struck multiple targets across Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, aimed at militant infrastructure. India has maintained that it did not target Pakistani military assets or civilian infrastructure.
Pakistan’s Claims
In his UN address, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif made several counterclaims. He asserted that Pakistani jets destroyed seven Indian aircraft during confrontations. India rejected that claim, calling it exaggerated and not supported by facts.
Diplomatic Impact
The exchange at the UN reflects deepening tensions between the two countries. With opposing narratives on conflict events, both sides are vying for international support and legitimacy. Observers say independent verification will be key to assessing the actual conduct and impact of the military operations.
