Pakistan Market Blast Kills At Least Nine
At least nine people were killed and around 30 others were wounded after an explosion hit a busy market in northwestern Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Tuesday.
Sarai Naurang Market Explosion
The blast took place in Sarai Naurang town in Lakki Marwat district, close to Pakistan’s border with Afghanistan. Police said the explosion was caused by a bomb-laden rickshaw in a crowded market area.
The attack caused panic in the bazaar and damaged nearby shops. Emergency teams shifted the injured to hospitals, with some of the seriously wounded taken to medical facilities in Bannu.
Two Traffic Police Among Dead
Local police said two traffic policemen and a woman were among those killed in the explosion. Initial reports said the blast may have targeted traffic police personnel present in the market.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. Officials said an investigation was under way to identify those behind the bombing and determine how the explosive device was planted.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Security Concerns
The attack comes amid a rise in militant violence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly in districts close to the Afghan border. Lakki Marwat and nearby Bannu have witnessed several attacks on police and security personnel in recent months.
The latest explosion also follows a deadly attack in Bannu district, where several police personnel were killed. Pakistan has repeatedly blamed militants operating from across the Afghan border, while the Taliban government in Kabul has rejected those allegations.
