Pakistan Intensifies Operations After Deadly Balochistan Attacks
Pakistan’s security forces launched intensified operations in Balochistan after a series of large-scale coordinated attacks on January 31, 2026 by militants linked to the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA). The insurgents struck police stations, paramilitary posts, a high-security prison and other targets across multiple districts.
Heavy Casualties Reported
Official figures confirm that the violence left dozens dead. At least 15 security personnel and 18 civilians were killed during the attacks, while nearly 92 separatist fighters were killed in counter-operations by security forces. The total number of deaths in the clashes exceeded 120 people, making it one of the deadliest waves of violence in years.
Militants Claim Responsibility
The BLA claimed responsibility for the coordinated strikes, describing them as simultaneous operations across the province. The group released videos showing fighters participating in the attacks, though Pakistani authorities rejected militant narratives and blamed external interference.
Government Response
Pakistan’s military and provincial officials said security forces had regained control of affected areas after intense battles and that operations would continue to prevent further unrest. The Balochistan insurgency, driven by separatist demands for autonomy and resource control, remains a persistent security challenge.
