Pakistan FM Makes First Bangladesh Visit in 13 Years
Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar arrived in Dhaka on Saturday for a two-day official visit, marking the first trip by a Pakistani foreign minister to Bangladesh in 13 years. Islamabad described the visit as a “significant milestone” in rebuilding relations.
Key Meetings Scheduled
Dar was received at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport by Bangladesh’s Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam and other senior officials. During his stay, he is scheduled to meet Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus and Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain. The visit is expected to see the signing of agreements on trade, economic cooperation, and diplomatic visa facilitation.
Renewed Bilateral Engagement
The trip comes against the backdrop of political changes in Dhaka following the departure of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in 2024. It follows earlier efforts to revive ties, including the resumption of direct sea cargo trade and ministerial visits from both sides. Discussions are also expected on expanding cooperation in investment, connectivity, and people-to-people exchanges.
