Pakistan Endorses Iran’s Right to Peaceful Nuclear Power

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for Iran’s right to develop nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. He made the statement during a joint press conference alongside Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, following the signing of new bilateral agreements.

Support for Civilian Nuclear Use

Sharif emphasized that Iran, like other nations, is entitled to pursue nuclear power under international law and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. He firmly opposed any use of the term “nuclear weaponise,” underlining that Pakistan supports only peaceful and regulated nuclear cooperation.

Condemning Israeli Actions, Calling for Unity

The prime minister criticized recent Israeli airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities as a violation of international norms. He described these attacks as unjustified aggression and voiced full solidarity with Iran while reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to peaceful diplomacy.

Wider Diplomatic and Trade Ties

The press conference followed the signing of multiple Memoranda of Understanding between Pakistan and Iran, which aim to strengthen trade ties and elevate bilateral cooperation. The two nations have set an ambitious trade target of $10 billion. Sharif also highlighted joint collaboration on counterterrorism and border management.

Reinforcing Regional Alignment

Pakistan and Iran share strategic interests in regional stability and energy collaboration. Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s position that terrorism in all forms is unacceptable and stressed the importance of regional unity. While differences with other global powers remain, both countries affirmed their shared stance on several international issues.
