Pakistan blames India for Wagah border waterlogging

A viral video circulating on social media shows the Pakistani side of the Wagah border submerged in knee-deep water during the daily ceremonial parade, while the Indian side remains dry and orderly. Pakistan has attributed the flooding to the elevated level of the nearby Grand Trunk Road, alleging that the raised infrastructure has diverted rainwater onto its territory.

Pakistan’s response

Pakistani officials expressed embarrassment over the visual disparity, claiming that India’s road elevation worsened the drainage problem on their side of the border. They have raised the issue as a concern, suggesting that corrective measures are needed.

Broader flood context

The incident comes at a time when heavy monsoon rains have already triggered widespread flooding across Punjab province. India’s controlled water releases from dams have also contributed to flood alerts, leading to precautionary evacuations in low-lying areas of Pakistan.
