Pakistan Backs China’s Mediation Claim on Operation Sindoor

Pakistan has publicly supported China’s claim that it played a mediating role during the military escalation between India and Pakistan following India’s Operation Sindoor in May 2025. Islamabad stated that Chinese leaders were in regular contact with regional stakeholders during the period of heightened tensions and described Beijing’s engagement as aimed at de-escalation and regional stability.

Statements From Islamabad

Pakistan’s Foreign Office said Chinese officials maintained continuous diplomatic communication during the crisis window and helped convey messages focused on restraint. Pakistan described China’s involvement as constructive diplomacy and aligned itself with Beijing’s assertion that such engagement contributed to easing tensions in South Asia.

India Rejects Third-Party Mediation

India has rejected claims of any external mediation in ending hostilities after Operation Sindoor. New Delhi has consistently maintained that the decision to halt military actions was reached through direct communication between the Directors General of Military Operations of India and Pakistan. Indian officials have reiterated that no third country played a role in the cessation of hostilities.

Background of Operation Sindoor

Operation Sindoor was launched by India in early May 2025 against terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir following a major terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir. The operation led to several days of military exchanges before both sides halted further action.

The differing positions of Pakistan and India highlight ongoing diplomatic contestation over narratives surrounding the 2025 escalation and the role of external powers in the region.
