Pakistan Admits Operational Strain in Balochistan

Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has acknowledged that security forces are facing severe operational difficulties while combating militant violence in Balochistan. Speaking amid ongoing counter-insurgency operations, Asif said troops are effectively “physically handicapped” due to the province’s vast size, harsh terrain and logistical challenges.

Fighting Intensifies Against Baloch Militants

The remarks come as Pakistani forces continue operations against the Baloch Liberation Army and other armed groups following a spike in coordinated attacks across the province. Authorities have claimed significant militant casualties in recent days and said security operations remain ongoing in multiple districts.

Terrain and Security Challenges Highlighted

Balochistan, Pakistan’s largest province by area, has long posed challenges for law enforcement and military control. Sparse population, difficult geography and limited infrastructure have repeatedly been cited as factors hampering sustained security operations. Asif’s comments underline the strain on Pakistan’s security apparatus as it attempts to contain the insurgency.

The government has ruled out talks with militant groups accused of attacking civilians and security personnel, reiterating that operations will continue despite acknowledged constraints.
