Over 1,000 Illegal Bangladeshis Arrested in Gujarat; Al-Qaeda Links Suspected
In a sweeping security operation, Gujarat Police have arrested 1,024 illegal Bangladeshi nationals across the state, uncovering alarming links to terrorist activities. The crackdown, launched after rising security concerns, has exposed the presence of suspected Al-Qaeda operatives among the detainees, raising fresh alarms over infiltration risks.
Illegal Bangladeshi Arrests
The mass arrests were carried out across key cities, with 890 individuals detained in Ahmedabad alone and 134 others picked up from Surat. Among those arrested, authorities have identified four individuals involved in criminal activities, while two are suspected to be part of Al-Qaeda sleeper cells. These suspects are currently being interrogated at a high-security Joint Interrogation Centre.
The detainees were found to be living illegally with the help of forged documents, including fabricated Aadhaar cards and voter IDs. Investigations are ongoing to dismantle the network that enabled their illegal entry and stay in India.
Gujarat Security Crackdown
The operation marks one of the largest coordinated efforts by Gujarat’s law enforcement agencies against illegal immigration. Authorities have issued warnings urging all illegal residents to voluntarily surrender within two days, failing which strict action will be initiated.
The crackdown is not just limited to arrests. A parallel investigation is underway to track document forgers, human trafficking agents, and those aiding illegal settlements. The government has made it clear that national security will not be compromised, and all necessary actions will be taken to root out these threats.
Al-Qaeda Operatives Gujarat
The discovery of suspected Al-Qaeda operatives among the detainees has intensified the urgency of the crackdown. Initial interrogations suggest that these operatives may have been part of a dormant network intended for future terror activities.
Security agencies are now probing potential links to broader networks both within India and internationally. Officials have emphasized that proactive vigilance and stringent border management are crucial to preventing further infiltration attempts.
Gujarat’s government has reiterated its commitment to maintaining strict security protocols and ensuring that the state remains resilient against any threats to national integrity.
