Over 100 Civilians Killed in Sudan’s Darfur Amid RSF Attacks
More than 100 civilians have been killed in Sudan’s Darfur region following brutal assaults by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on camps housing displaced persons. The attacks targeted the Zamzam and Abu Shouk camps near El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, over a two-day period, leaving a trail of devastation in one of the region’s most vulnerable areas.
Health authorities reported that over 100 people were killed in the Zamzam camp alone, with scores of others injured. Among the dead were nine staff members of a humanitarian organization running a field hospital within the camp. A separate attack on the Abu Shouk camp the following day left 14 more civilians dead.
These displacement camps, already overwhelmed by overcrowding and a lack of basic facilities, have now become direct targets in the ongoing conflict, worsening the humanitarian catastrophe that has engulfed the region.
Humanitarian Crisis Deepens Amid Conflict
Since the outbreak of the power struggle between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the RSF in April 2023, more than 29,000 people have lost their lives. The conflict has forced millions to flee their homes, pushing many into makeshift camps that offer little protection or resources.
The targeting of these camps by RSF fighters has drawn sharp condemnation, with humanitarian agencies labeling the strikes as war crimes and calling for immediate international intervention to prevent further atrocities.
Amid worsening conditions, aid groups have sounded the alarm about starvation, lack of medical care, and the psychological toll on families enduring sustained violence.
Global Outcry Grows Over Sudan Crisis
The international community is under growing pressure to respond to the deteriorating situation in Sudan. Calls for ceasefires, protection of civilians, and accountability for human rights violations have grown louder as reports of civilian massacres continue to emerge.
Human rights organizations have urged governments and multilateral bodies to act swiftly, both to hold perpetrators accountable and to provide urgent relief to Sudan’s displaced and traumatized population.
As Darfur descends deeper into crisis, the latest atrocities underscore the urgent need for coordinated global action to halt the violence, deliver humanitarian aid, and work toward a long-term resolution that restores peace and stability in the war-torn nation.
