Operation Akhal Enters Ninth Day: Two Soldiers Killed

A fierce anti-terror operation called Operation Akhal is ongoing in the dense Akhal-Devsar forest area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district. As of Saturday, August 9, 2025, the encounter has now entered its ninth day, making it one of the longest such operations in recent years.

Soldiers Killed in Action

During a close combat confrontation with heavily armed militants, two Indian Army soldiers — Lance Naik Pritpal Singh and Sepoy Harminder Singh — lost their lives while bravely defending their position. The army confirmed their identities and paid tribute to their supreme sacrifice. The soldiers were killed in the line of duty during the intense gun battle.

Injuries and Ongoing Combat

In addition to the tragic loss, several other security personnel were wounded in the overnight firefight. Four soldiers were reported injured, and two later succumbed to their injuries.

Large-Scale Security Deployment

The ongoing operation has pushed security forces to deploy extensive resources, including ground troops, drones, and helicopters, to flush out militants hiding in the rugged, forested terrain. One terrorist has been neutralized during the operation, and weapons were also recovered in a separate raid in Baramulla.

Situation Remains Tense

Despite their best efforts, the security forces continue to face challenges from militants deeply embedded in the difficult terrain. The situation remains tense, with anti-terror operations across Jammu and Kashmir being intensified.
