OpenAI To Retire GPT-4o Model

OpenAI has announced that it will retire the GPT-4o model from ChatGPT starting March 1, 2026 as the company shifts focus to newer, more advanced AI systems. Users of ChatGPT will no longer be able to select GPT-4o after that date.

Transition to New Models

OpenAI said retiring GPT-4o will help streamline its offerings and encourage use of updated models that provide better performance, accuracy and safety. Existing chat histories and data created with GPT-4o will remain available to users after the retirement date.

Why the Change

The move comes as OpenAI regularly updates its AI lineup to support faster, more efficient and capable tools for developers and consumers. Newer models released after GPT-4o are expected to offer enhanced reasoning, broader knowledge and improved handling of complex tasks.

Impact on Users

Users and developers who rely on GPT-4o will need to transition to newer models for future applications. OpenAI said support resources and documentation will help with migration to alternative models without data loss.
