Omar Abdullah: No Statehood Demands Amid Pahalgam Tragedy

In an emotionally charged session of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah delivered a powerful message following the Pahalgam terror attack that left 26 people dead. Emphasizing the gravity of the tragedy, Abdullah stated that this was neither the time nor the occasion to discuss political issues such as the restoration of statehood. He urged the House and the wider public to stand united in mourning, setting aside political ambitions and focusing on honoring the victims.

Abdullah reiterated that the pain of the families who lost their loved ones must take precedence over political narratives. Stressing the seriousness of the situation, he made it clear that no political gain could justify discussions that would detract from the collective grief being experienced across the region.

Pahalgam Attack Response

Addressing the Assembly, Abdullah acknowledged the spontaneous protests, candlelight vigils, and widespread condemnation of the terror attack by the local populace. He observed that these gestures reflected a growing rejection of violence among ordinary citizens. According to him, while security forces are vital in combating militancy, true and lasting peace would only be possible with the active participation and trust of the people.

He also warned against any heavy-handed measures that might alienate the local community, insisting that maintaining public trust was critical to defeating the forces of terror. Abdullah’s appeal was to preserve the unity and compassion that were visibly displayed in the immediate aftermath of the Pahalgam tragedy.

J&K Assembly Session

During the solemn Assembly session, Omar Abdullah read aloud the names of the victims, paying heartfelt tribute to each life lost. The Assembly members stood together in grief, unanimously passing a resolution condemning the attack and vowing to strengthen efforts against terrorism.

The Chief Minister urged legislators across party lines to rise above political rivalries and support the bereaved families with sincerity and action. The session concluded with a firm, unified stance against terrorism and a collective commitment to work toward peace and healing.

Omar Abdullah’s call for unity, empathy, and restraint highlighted the need for solidarity in the face of terror, reinforcing the message that political aspirations must never overshadow human tragedy.
