Oli Warns of Sovereignty Threat After Nepal Protests

Former Nepal Prime Minister K. P. Sharma Oli has issued his first public remarks since being ousted, warning that Nepal’s sovereignty is under threat. He made this statement on Constitution Day, reflecting on recent Gen Z-led protests and the fallout from his resignation.

Reference to 2015 Blockade

Although he did not name India explicitly, Oli recalled the 2015 blockade on Nepal’s southern border, which impeded movement of goods and created shortages after Nepal adopted a new constitution. He cited this as an example of external pressure and urged the country to reduce dependence on a single neighbour.

Infiltration & False Narratives

Oli said the Gen Z protests, which began with demands for accountability, were infiltrated by conspirators. He also mentioned “false narratives” being spread, suggesting some of the unrest was stoked by external or internal actors for political effect.

Call for Unity & Constitutional Protection

In his post, Oli appealed for national unity to protect the constitution and Nepal’s identity. He stressed that the constitution was adopted after years of struggle and must be defended against any threat to sovereignty.
