Nvidia CEO Backs Trump’s New Visa Fee, Supports Staff
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has backed U.S. President Donald Trump’s new $100,000 H-1B visa fee, calling it a “great start” while assuring employees that the company will continue to fully support immigrant talent.
Memo to Employees
In an internal note, Huang said the steep fee may pose challenges, particularly for smaller firms, but reiterated his strong belief that legal immigration is critical to innovation. He also drew from his own experience as an immigrant, saying the policy should not deter global talent from contributing to U.S. tech leadership.
Nvidia to Cover Visa Costs
Huang confirmed that Nvidia will continue sponsoring H-1B visas and will absorb the entire cost of the new fee for new applicants. He clarified that the fee applies only to applications filed after September 21, 2025, and does not affect existing visa holders.
Industry Response
While Huang offered cautious support, other tech executives have criticized the move, arguing that the fee could discourage skilled foreign workers and restrict smaller firms from hiring top talent. Critics fear it could undermine the U.S. position as a global innovation hub.
Outlook
Analysts believe Nvidia’s financial strength allows it to withstand the policy, but startups may struggle. The long-term effect of the reform will likely reshape how U.S. firms recruit and manage global talent in the highly competitive tech sector.
