Novak Djokovic Storms Into Wimbledon Semis After Dominant Win

Novak Djokovic made yet another emphatic statement at Wimbledon 2025, powering into the semifinals with a clinical straight-sets victory over Italy’s Flavio Cobolli. The Serbian, who is eyeing his eighth Wimbledon crown and 25th Grand Slam title, gave little room for error and overpowered his 22-year-old opponent 6-3, 6-3, 7-5 on Centre Court.

Cobolli, who had impressed many with his journey into the last eight, was no match for Djokovic’s composure and court control. Making his Wimbledon debut, Cobolli was attempting to become the first Italian to reach the semifinals in the tournament’s history. However, Djokovic’s experience proved decisive throughout the match.

The 37-year-old Serbian ace was clinical in his approach. He maintained dominance in rallies and played with visible freedom, despite recent concerns over his fitness. After undergoing knee surgery just a month before the tournament, Djokovic has continued to defy odds.

Speaking after the match, Djokovic said, “Very solid performance. I could have done some things better in the third set, but I am very happy to be through in straight sets. I am very pleased with the way I played, especially in the first two sets.”

He added, “I think I played the best two sets of the tournament so far for me, and then the third set, credit to him for raising the level. I had to fight, and I did, and in the tie-break, I guess I held my nerves and played good enough tennis to win.”

This win marks Djokovic’s 13th Wimbledon semifinal, equalling Roger Federer’s all-time record in the Open Era. It’s another milestone for the Serbian, who continues to chase records even in the twilight of his career.

Djokovic now awaits the winner of the match between Taylor Fritz and Lorenzo Musetti. A win in the semifinals would put him one step closer to a record-extending Grand Slam count, and potentially his eighth title at the All England Club — a feat that would draw him level with Federer’s iconic Wimbledon tally.

For Cobolli, it was a valuable experience, and despite the defeat, he has won hearts with his spirited run and could be a name to watch in the coming years.
