Northern Railways Cancels and Short-Terminates Services
Northern Railways has cancelled 22 trains scheduled to stop at or depart from Jammu and Katra railway stations. In addition, 27 trains have been short-terminated within the division as part of precautionary measures following continuous heavy rainfall.
Record Rainfall Triggers Floods and Damage
The Jammu region recorded more than 250 mm of rainfall in less than 24 hours, the heaviest in decades. The downpour has caused severe flooding, landslides, and damage to bridges and highways, bringing rail connectivity to a halt.
Pilgrimage Traffic Severely Hit
Among the cancelled trains, nine were linked to Katra, the base camp for the Vaishno Devi pilgrimage. Thousands of pilgrims have been left stranded as both road and rail access to the shrine have been disrupted.
Wider Transport Disruptions Across Region
The heavy rains have also affected other transport links, with reports of road washouts and suspension of services on the Pathankot–Kandrori rail route in Himachal Pradesh. Emergency evacuations and rescue operations are ongoing as the region battles rising water levels.
