North Korea Vows Stronger Ties With Russia

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has declared that his country’s military partnership with Russia will “advance non-stop,” reinforcing Pyongyang’s support for Moscow amid the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Speech at Memorial Ceremony

Kim made the remarks during a groundbreaking ceremony for a memorial honouring North Korean soldiers who fought alongside Russian forces in the Kursk region. He described the alliance as rooted in “militant fraternity” and said it would continue to grow despite global opposition.

Military Alliance Deepens

The pledge comes after North Korea and Russia signed a mutual defence treaty in 2024. Reports from South Korean intelligence suggest Pyongyang has deployed over 10,000 troops to Russia in exchange for economic and military assistance, further strengthening their cooperation.

Strategic Importance

Analysts say the renewed emphasis on partnership highlights both countries’ efforts to counter international isolation and sanctions. The symbolic gestures, alongside practical defence collaboration, indicate that military cooperation will remain a cornerstone of their relationship.
