Nitish Kumar Sworn in as Bihar CM for Record 10th Time
Nitish Kumar was sworn in as Chief Minister of Bihar for the 10th time on 20 November 2025 at the Gandhi Maidan in Patna. The ceremony followed the National Democratic Alliance’s decisive victory in the 2025 state assembly elections, where the alliance secured 202 out of 243 seats. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah attended the event along with other senior leaders.
Election Triumph and Continuity
The JD(U) leader’s return to power caps a political exponent of continuity, having held the state’s top post across alternating stints since 2005. Analysts view the 10th swearing-in as symbolic of his enduring leadership and adaptability in a competitive and fragmented state polity. The NDA’s landslide win followed a campaign that emphasised infrastructure, governance and social welfare.
Governance Landscape Ahead
With three deputies and a nearly full cabinet taking office, Nitish Kumar faces immediate tasks including deploying the electoral mandate, implementing infrastructure projects and stabilising coalition dynamics. Observers say the orchestrated ceremony at Gandhi Maidan and high-profile attendance underline the coalition’s intent to showcase unity and firm governance agenda. As the new ministry settles in, its performance is expected to shape political calculations for upcoming regional and national elections.
