NIA Files Chargesheet in Pahalgam Terror Attack Case

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against operatives of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and its offshoot The Resistance Front (TRF), along with local collaborators, in connection with the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir. The attack targeted civilians and security personnel in the Pahalgam area, triggering a nationwide security response.

According to the investigation, the attack was carried out by Pakistan-based terrorists who entered the Valley with logistical support from local operatives. The chargesheet names foreign handlers linked to LeT and TRF as the main conspirators, while several residents of Jammu and Kashmir have been accused of providing shelter, reconnaissance, and material support to the terrorists.

Role of Pakistan-Based Handlers

The NIA said the accused terrorists were acting on instructions from handlers based across the border. These handlers allegedly coordinated movement, provided funds, and selected targets with the aim of reviving terrorism in the Kashmir Valley and disrupting peace in the region. Digital evidence, financial trails, and witness statements have been cited as part of the prosecution material.

Investigators said the attack was part of a broader conspiracy to spread fear, target tourism, and undermine normalcy in south Kashmir.

Local Support Network Identified

The agency stated that local accused played a critical role by arranging hideouts, transporting arms, and conducting surveillance of potential targets. The chargesheet highlights how overground workers were used to avoid detection and assist terrorists after the attack.

Legal Provisions Invoked

The accused have been charged under provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), the Indian Penal Code, and other relevant laws related to terrorism and criminal conspiracy. The NIA said further investigation is continuing to identify additional conspirators and funding channels.
