Netanyahu Claims Iran Tried to Kill His Son
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has claimed that Iran attempted to assassinate one of his sons, making the allegation during a phone interview broadcast on Monday. Netanyahu did not identify which son was allegedly targeted or provide details about when or how the purported assassination attempt occurred.
Netanyahu Claims Iran Targeted One of His Sons
Netanyahu said Iran had targeted one of his two sons, Yair or Avner, and attempted to kill him. He offered no evidence publicly to substantiate the allegation and did not disclose whether the alleged plot had progressed beyond the planning stage.
Israeli media reported that security authorities had been aware of the alleged threat for several months. Iran had not publicly responded to Netanyahu’s accusation when the claim was reported.
Iran Claim Raised During Israel Security Debate
Netanyahu made the allegation while discussing security arrangements for politicians and members of his family ahead of Israel’s October 27 general election.
The Israeli leader argued that threats from Iran demonstrated why security protection should not be regarded as a luxury. He said he had spoken with Shin Bet chief David Zini and requested appropriate protection for candidates running for prime minister.
The comments followed reports of disagreement over security protection for former military chief Gadi Eisenkot, a major political challenger ahead of the election.
Netanyahu Family Gets Extended Shin Bet Protection
Israel’s ministerial committee overseeing Shin Bet affairs approved extended personal security in July for Netanyahu’s wife, Sara, and sons Yair and Avner.
Netanyahu’s accusation comes amid heightened Israel-Iran tensions following months of direct conflict between Tehran and the US-Israeli alliance.
No independent confirmation of the alleged Iranian assassination attempt has been made public.
