Netanyahu Cites India After Vance Remark

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has pushed back against US Vice President JD Vance’s claim that Israel has only one powerful ally, saying Israel continues to receive strong support from India and other countries.

Netanyahu Cites India Support For Israel

Netanyahu referred to India while responding to Vance’s remarks on Israel’s diplomatic position. Speaking in an interview, he said Israel had support from “a small country called India” with 1.4 billion people, adding that the backing from India was “tremendous.”

His comments came after Vance warned Israeli leaders against criticising the United States, calling Washington Israel’s only powerful ally in the current geopolitical environment.

JD Vance Remark On Israel-US Ties

Vance had made the comments while defending the US position on a recent understanding with Iran. He said Israeli officials should recognise the importance of American support, especially given Washington’s long-standing defence and military assistance to Israel.

The remarks were seen as a sign of growing strain between the US and Israel over regional policy, including Iran, Lebanon and Hezbollah-related security concerns.

India-Israel Relations In Focus

Netanyahu said he respected Vance but did not agree with all his statements. He also praised US President Donald Trump, calling him one of Israel’s strongest supporters in the White House.

At the same time, Netanyahu argued that Israel was not diplomatically isolated and had friends beyond the United States. His mention of India reflects the growing strategic and political importance of India-Israel relations, which have expanded in areas such as defence, technology, agriculture and security cooperation.

The comments also come at a time when Israel continues to face international criticism over conflicts in Gaza, Lebanon and the wider West Asia region.
