Nepal Condemns Terrorism, Urges Peace Amid India-Pakistan Tensions

In response to the rapidly escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, the Government of Nepal has issued a strong statement condemning terrorism and expressing concern over the deteriorating regional security climate. The condemnation comes in the wake of the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which claimed 26 lives, including that of a Nepali national, Sudeep Neupane.

Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed deep solidarity with India, stating that Nepal stands firmly against terrorism in all its forms. The statement emphasized Nepal’s commitment to not allowing any inimical forces to operate against its neighbors from Nepali soil, reinforcing the country’s policy of regional cooperation and security.

Following India’s launch of ‘Operation Sindoor’ in response to the Pahalgam massacre, Nepal acknowledged India’s right to defend its territory and citizens from acts of terrorism. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli conveyed heartfelt condolences to his Indian counterpart and denounced the attack as heinous and deeply disturbing.

Nepal Condemns Terrorism

To address any spillover of regional instability, Nepal has activated heightened security protocols, especially along its open border with India. The Armed Police Force has been placed on high alert, and joint patrolling and coordination with Indian border forces have been increased. Intelligence sharing between the two countries has also been strengthened to prevent the movement of extremist elements.

The National Security Council of Nepal convened to assess the strategic situation and decided on tighter surveillance at entry points including key airports and land crossings. Monitoring of Nepali citizens residing in both India and Pakistan has also been intensified, with embassy staff tasked to ensure their safety and facilitate assistance if needed.

Regional Peace

Within Nepal’s Parliament, lawmakers from across the political spectrum have urged the government to take a clear and assertive stand against terrorism. They called for measures to ensure national security while also reaffirming Nepal’s longstanding commitment to non-alignment and regional peace.

Nepal reiterated its call for immediate de-escalation between India and Pakistan and stressed the urgent need for dialogue and restraint to prevent further conflict in South Asia. The message from Kathmandu was clear: zero tolerance for terrorism, full support for victims of cross-border terror, and a firm commitment to peace.
