Neeraj Chopra Says 90m Throw Wasn’t Technically Perfect

Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra admitted ahead of the 2025 Diamond League Final in Zurich that his celebrated 90.23m throw in Doha was not technically perfect. While the mark broke the long-awaited 90m barrier for Indian athletics, Chopra said the execution could still be refined and that his ultimate aim remains delivering the “perfect throw.”

Technique Still a Work in Progress

Chopra explained that although his run-up speed has improved, technical aspects such as the positioning of his left leg at release and effective use of his blocking foot need further work. He credited his progress to coaching under javelin legend Jan Železný but maintained that adjustments are still necessary to achieve greater consistency.

Focus on Zurich Diamond League Final

The 2025 Zurich event offers Chopra another chance to reclaim the Diamond Trophy, which he last won in 2022. He finished runner-up in both 2023 and 2024 and will now face strong competition from Julian Weber and Anderson Peters. Chopra stated that his ambition is not just to cross 90m but to do so with flawless technique.

Building for Future Success

Chopra’s comments highlight his approach of pushing beyond records toward technical mastery. With the World Championships approaching later this year, Zurich will serve as a crucial test for the reigning Olympic gold medallist as he seeks both consistency and improvement in his performances.
