The National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has officially revealed its seat-sharing arrangement for the upcoming Jharkhand assembly elections. Out of the 81 seats in the Jharkhand legislative assembly, the BJP will contest 68, leaving the remaining seats for its alliance partners.

BJP and Allies Seat Allocation

In a joint press conference held at the BJP state headquarters in Ranchi, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, BJP’s co-incharge for Jharkhand elections, announced that the All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) would contest 10 seats, while the Janata Dal-United (JDU) and Lok Janshakti Party (Ramvilas) would contest two and one seat, respectively. The BJP will take the lead, contesting 68 seats in the 81-member assembly.

Key Seats for AJSU, JDU, and LJP

AJSU will contest key constituencies including Silli, Ramgarh, Gomia, Jugsalai (SC), Ichagarh, Lohardaga (ST), Pakur, Manoharpur (ST), Mandu, and Dumri. The JDU has been allocated Jamshedpur West and Tamar (ST), while the LJP (Ramvilas) will contest the Chatra (SC) seat.

Possible Changes to Seat Allocation

Sarma also noted that slight adjustments might be made depending on the ground situation and the declaration of seats and candidates by the opposition INDIA bloc alliance. The Jharkhand assembly elections are set to take place in two phases, on November 13 and 20, with vote counting scheduled for November 23.

The current Jharkhand assembly’s term will conclude on January 5, 2025.
