Nayara Energy Appoints New CEO Amid Sanctions

Nayara Energy has appointed Teymur Abasguliyev as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective September. The announcement follows the resignation of former CEO Alessandro des Dorides, who stepped down in July after the company came under European Union sanctions.

Abasguliyev Brings Global Energy Leadership

Abasguliyev, an Azerbaijan national, currently serves as CFO of SOCAR Turkiye. With over 20 years of international experience, he has worked across governance, mergers and acquisitions, and large-scale organizational transformation in the energy sector.

Sanctions Prompt Leadership Shake-Up

The leadership change comes as Nayara, backed by Russian oil giant Rosneft, faces challenges at its Vadinar refinery in Gujarat. Sanctions have disrupted shipping links and cut fuel processing capacity, forcing the company to adapt quickly under new management.
