Myanmar Earthquake Triggers Tremors in Kolkata

Tremors were felt across Kolkata and adjoining areas on Tuesday evening after an earthquake struck neighbouring Myanmar, causing brief panic among residents in parts of eastern India.

Details of the Earthquake

The earthquake, measuring around magnitude 6 on the Richter scale, originated in Myanmar and was felt in several locations across West Bengal, including Kolkata, Howrah and parts of North 24 Parganas. The tremors were short-lived but noticeable, particularly in high-rise buildings, prompting some residents to step outdoors as a precaution.

No Damage or Casualties Reported

Authorities said there were no immediate reports of damage to property or loss of life in Kolkata or surrounding areas. Officials from disaster management agencies stated that the situation was being closely monitored and there was no cause for alarm at this stage.

India’s seismic monitoring agencies continue to track aftershock activity in the region. Residents have been advised to remain calm and follow standard safety guidelines in case of further tremors.
