Muttaqi Holds Second Press Meet With Women Journalists
Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi held a second press conference in New Delhi, this time ensuring women journalists were present. The move came after widespread criticism over their exclusion from his earlier interaction with the media.
No Deliberate Exclusion, Says Muttaqi
Muttaqi clarified that women were not intentionally kept out of the first presser. He described the issue as a “technical matter” caused by short notice and limited invitations, adding that there was “no intention” to discriminate.
Strong Reactions From Media And Opposition
The Editors Guild of India and the Indian Women Press Corps had earlier condemned the exclusion, calling it discriminatory. Opposition parties also demanded that the government explain how such a press meet took place in India.
Government’s Stand
The Ministry of External Affairs reiterated that the Government of India had no role in organising the initial presser. Officials said the event was managed solely by the Afghan delegation, which determined the access rules.
