Musheer Khan Suffers Neck Fracture in Road Accident Ahead of Irani Cup
Mumbai’s promising right-hand batter Musheer Khan has sustained a neck fracture following a road accident en route to Lucknow for the Irani Cup match against Rest of India, which begins on Tuesday. The 19-year-old cricketer is currently hospitalized in Lucknow, under close medical observation.
Details of Musheer Khan’s Accident
Musheer Khan was traveling from Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, with his father and coach, Naushad Khan, when the unfortunate incident occurred on Friday night. Reports indicate that the car overturned after the driver lost control. Both Musheer and Naushad Khan were immediately taken to a local hospital for treatment. While Musheer is in a stable condition, he is expected to miss the remainder of the cricket season due to his injuries.
“Once Musheer is deemed medically fit for travel, he will be flown to Mumbai for further evaluation and additional medical treatment. The timeline for his recovery will be determined following these assessments,” said MCA Secretary Abhay Hadap.
BCCI and MCA Monitor Musheer Khan’s Condition
Musheer, the younger brother of Indian cricketer Sarfaraz Khan, remains conscious and under constant supervision by the medical teams from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA).
Comparison to Rishabh Pant’s Accident
This incident echoes the severe car accident suffered by Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant in December 2022, where Pant’s car burst into flames after the collision. The similarity in circumstances highlights the unpredictable nature of road accidents impacting cricketers’ careers.
Naushad Khan, who suffered minor injuries, stated, “The doctors are waiting for scan reports to confirm the nature and extent of Musheer’s neck fracture.”
Musheer Khan’s Recent Performance
Musheer, who recently scored a century in a Duleep Trophy match, was in excellent form and was looking forward to joining his Mumbai teammates. His absence will be a significant loss for the Mumbai squad in the ongoing cricket season.
This incident serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by athletes beyond the playing field and emphasizes the importance of safety and well-being during travel.
