Mumbai Indians Sign Keshav Maharaj
Mumbai Indians have signed South African left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj as a replacement for Mitchell Santner, who has been ruled out of IPL 2026 because of a left shoulder injury.
Keshav Maharaj Joins Mumbai Indians
Mumbai Indians confirmed Maharaj’s signing after Santner suffered a left shoulder injury during the match against Chennai Super Kings on April 23.
The franchise wished Santner a full recovery and said it looked forward to seeing him return to action soon. Maharaj now joins the Mumbai Indians squad as the team looks to strengthen its spin department for the remaining part of the IPL season.
Mitchell Santner Ruled Out Of IPL 2026
Santner’s absence is a setback for Mumbai Indians because of his all-round value as a left-arm spinner and lower-order batting option.
The New Zealand cricketer had been part of Mumbai’s campaign before the injury forced him out. His replacement, Maharaj, brings experience and control, especially in middle-overs bowling.
Maharaj Brings Spin Experience To MI
Keshav Maharaj is one of South Africa’s most experienced spinners across formats. He has been a regular figure in the Proteas setup since making his international debut in 2016.
In his last 30 T20 matches, Maharaj has taken 31 wickets, with best figures of 3 for 15. Mumbai Indians said his discipline, pressure-handling ability and experience make him a strong fit for the squad.
Mumbai Indians Strengthen Bowling Options
Maharaj’s arrival gives Mumbai Indians another specialist spin option as the tournament enters an important phase.
His ability to build pressure and bowl with control could help MI manage middle-overs matchups more effectively.
