Mumbai Back on Track as Train and Bus Services Resume Following Heavy Rain
The torrential rain that disrupted Mumbai on Wednesday has finally subsided, allowing public transportation services, including buses and trains, to resume normal operations on Thursday.
Despite the severe waterlogging and traffic congestion caused by the downpour, essential services remained largely unaffected in the early morning hours. The state-run BEST bus services returned to their regular routes, although four buses—three owned by BEST and one on wet lease—were reported damaged.
Authorities are currently assessing the extent of the damage to the buses to prevent any further operational challenges. “While the situation has largely improved with the rainfall subsiding, the bus operations within the city are stable. Four buses have been identified as damaged so far,” a BEST spokesperson confirmed.
Train services, which were halted on Wednesday due to waterlogged tracks, also resumed on Thursday. The Central Railway stated, “All local trains are running normally. On the main line, trains are 3-4 minutes behind schedule due to rescheduled mail express movements.”
Additionally, suburban services under the Western Railway have been restored as water levels at key stations have receded.
