Moscow Says Oil Trade Benefits Indian Economy
Following U.S. President Donald Trump’s statement that Prime Minister Modi had assured him India would stop buying Russian oil, Russia’s ambassador to India, Denis Alipov, responded by saying Moscow does not meddle in other nations’ energy policies.
Oil supplies and economic benefits
Alipov asserted that Russian oil shipments are “very beneficial” to the Indian economy. He emphasized that energy cooperation is rooted in mutual interest and does not target third parties.
India’s energy policy stance
India, for its part, has maintained that decisions on oil imports are driven by national interests, with priorities placed on energy security, affordability, and diversified sourcing.
Period of tension in energy diplomacy
The exchange underscores heightened diplomatic pressure over energy trade, as India remains a large buyer of Russian crude despite global objections. Russia has also expressed confidence that its energy partnership with India will endure.
