Mojtaba Khamenei Reportedly Named Iran Leader
Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has reportedly been selected as the country’s new Supreme Leader following the death of his father during the ongoing regional conflict. The reported decision comes amid a major leadership transition in Iran during a period of heightened geopolitical tensions across the Middle East.
Mojtaba Khamenei Reportedly Elected By Assembly Of Experts
According to multiple reports, Iran’s Assembly of Experts has selected Mojtaba Khamenei as the next Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic. The Assembly of Experts is an 88-member clerical body responsible under Iran’s constitution for appointing and supervising the country’s Supreme Leader.
Reports indicate that the decision was taken during meetings held after the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who had led Iran since 1989. Mojtaba Khamenei, a cleric and the second-eldest son of the late leader, has long been viewed as a possible successor due to his influence within Iran’s political and religious establishment.
Some reports have also suggested that Iran’s powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) supported his elevation to the country’s highest political position, although official confirmation from Iranian state authorities has not yet been publicly issued.
Leadership Transition After Death Of Ali Khamenei
The reported appointment comes days after Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed during military strikes linked to the escalating conflict involving Iran, Israel and the United States. His death triggered a leadership transition process within Iran’s political structure.
Following his death, Iran reportedly moved into a temporary leadership arrangement while the Assembly of Experts deliberated on selecting a permanent successor. The Supreme Leader holds the highest authority in Iran, serving as commander-in-chief of the armed forces and exercising significant influence over Iran’s political, judicial and security institutions.
Who Is Mojtaba Khamenei
Mojtaba Khamenei, believed to be in his mid-50s, has largely operated behind the scenes in Iranian politics but is widely considered an influential figure within conservative circles. Over the years, he has developed strong connections with Iran’s security establishment and sections of the clerical leadership.
If formally confirmed, his appointment would represent a major leadership transition in the Islamic Republic and could shape Iran’s political direction during a period of regional instability.
