Mohammad Ghalibaf Pushes ‘New Regional Order’ in Iraq

Iranian Parliament Speaker and top negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has said his visit to Iraq is aimed at strengthening what Tehran describes as a “new regional order” based on deeper security and economic cooperation among regional countries without foreign intervention.

Ghalibaf Pushes New Regional Order in Iraq

Speaking during his visit to Iraq, Ghalibaf said Tehran wants countries across the region to increase direct cooperation and reduce their dependence on outside powers.

He said the trip was intended to strengthen a new regional framework and accelerate cooperation among neighbouring countries without intervention by foreign powers.

His remarks were made at the site where former Iranian General Qassem Soleimani was killed in Baghdad.

Iran Calls for Deeper Regional Security Ties

Ghalibaf said Islamic countries in the region should seek to establish deeper security interactions and stronger strategic ties.

He argued that security cooperation should be supported by sustainable economic partnerships, presenting closer regional coordination as a model for long-term stability.

Iran, he added, was fully prepared to participate in and advance such an arrangement.

Iran-Iraq Cooperation Takes Centre Stage

Ghalibaf’s remarks come as Iran seeks to deepen political, security and economic ties with Iraq while promoting broader cooperation among Middle Eastern countries.

Tehran has increasingly argued that regional states should take greater responsibility for their own security architecture rather than relying on outside military powers.

The proposal comes amid shifting alliances and growing debate over the future balance of power across the Middle East.
