Modi to Visit Cyprus Canada and Croatia from June 15 to 19

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will undertake a significant three-nation diplomatic tour from June 15 to 19, covering Cyprus, Canada, and Croatia. This marks his first foreign visit since the launch of Operation Sindoor and reflects India’s efforts to reinforce global partnerships and reset strategic equations.

Tour Schedule and Objectives

The first stop will be Cyprus on June 15 and 16. Modi will be the first Indian Prime Minister to visit the Mediterranean island nation in over two decades. He is expected to hold high-level talks with President Nikos Christodoulides and engage with the Indian diaspora and business community. The visit aims to strengthen ties with the European Union and expand India’s strategic footprint in the Eastern Mediterranean.

From June 16 to 17, Modi will be in Canada to attend the 51st G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Alberta. Invited by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Modi’s participation will focus on discussions around energy security, emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and quantum computing, and global economic stability. It will be his sixth appearance at the G7 Summit as a special invitee. The visit also includes a crucial bilateral meeting with Carney, widely seen as an attempt to mend strained India Canada relations in the aftermath of the diplomatic fallout in 2023.

On June 18, Modi will conclude his tour in Croatia. This will be the first ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the Balkan nation. He is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic and President Zoran Milanovic in Zagreb. The visit aims to open new avenues for cooperation in technology, trade, and cultural exchange between India and Croatia.

Strategic Significance of the Visit

This three-nation tour carries strategic significance on multiple fronts. It reflects India’s efforts to diversify its diplomatic engagements by engaging with smaller but strategically located nations like Cyprus and Croatia. The visit to Canada, though under the shadow of previous tensions, is aimed at recalibrating relations and expanding cooperation in areas such as critical minerals, defense, and intelligence sharing.

India’s participation in the G7 also reinforces its position as a key player in global governance. With its growing economy and expanding technological prowess, India is now seen as a vital voice in shaping the future of global energy and digital policy.
