Modi to Meet Xi at SCO Summit in Tianjin

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to Tianjin, China, to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit scheduled for August 31 to September 1, 2025. The visit is significant as it will be his first official trip to China in more than seven years.

Bilateral Meetings with Xi and Putin

On the sidelines of the summit, Modi is expected to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping on August 31. He will also hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on September 1. The bilateral discussions are expected to cover border stability, trade cooperation, and regional security.

Improving India–China Relations

The visit marks a phase of re-engagement in India–China ties. Earlier this year, the two countries made progress on border de-escalation, resumed direct flights, and reopened some trade routes. Analysts say the summit will provide an opportunity to build on these steps and explore new avenues of cooperation in the midst of global geopolitical shifts.
