Modi, Shah, Rajnath Condole Karur Rally Stampede

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed condolences following the Karur rally stampede in Tamil Nadu that claimed 31 lives and injured several others.

The tragedy occurred during a political event by Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party on Saturday. Reports say six children were among those who died. The full cause of how the stampede began is still under investigation.

National Leaders React

PM Modi said the incident was deeply saddening and extended his sympathies to the bereaved families, wishing speedy recovery for the injured. Amit Shah expressed grief over the loss and prayed for strength to the victims’ families. Rajnath Singh called the event “deeply anguishing” and urged care for those hurt.

Local Aftermath

In Tamil Nadu, officials confirmed the death toll of 31 and multiple hospitalisations. A one-member commission of inquiry, led by a retired High Court judge, has been formed to probe the incident. Compensation of ₹10 lakh has been announced for families of those who died.

The stampede has raised questions about crowd control and safety at large political gatherings, especially in high-attendance events.
