Modi Says Disasters Testing the Nation in Mann Ki Baat

In the 125th episode of Mann Ki Baat on August 31, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the massive destruction caused by heavy monsoon rains across northern states. He said homes had been swept away, bridges destroyed, fields inundated, and vital roads cut off, describing the calamity as a severe test for the country.

Commending Relief Efforts

The Prime Minister lauded the tireless work of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), armed forces, and volunteers. He also noted the use of advanced technologies such as drones, life detectors, sniffer dogs, and thermal cameras in rescue operations. Helicopters were deployed to drop food and medicines, while the injured were airlifted to hospitals.

Glimmers of Hope in Kashmir

Amid the grim scenario, Modi highlighted uplifting stories from Jammu and Kashmir. Pulwama hosted its first-ever day-night cricket match, and Srinagar’s Dal Lake staged the first Khelo India Water Sports Festival, featuring over 800 athletes with strong participation from women. He described these events as symbols of resilience and optimism.
