Modi Receives Vibrant Welcome in Brazil with ‘Op Sindoor’ Dance
Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a grand and emotionally charged welcome upon his arrival in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he is attending the 17th BRICS Summit. The Indian diaspora turned out in large numbers, waving flags, performing cultural dances, and proudly showcasing their connection to Indian heritage.
Modi Brazil visit
As the Prime Minister landed in Rio, he was met with chants of “Modi! Modi!” and patriotic slogans echoing through the air. Members of the Indian community greeted him with folk songs, devotional hymns, and traditional garlands. The energy of the gathering reflected not just admiration for the Prime Minister but also a deep-rooted pride in India’s global stature.
Op Sindoor tribute
The most striking moment of the welcome was a choreographed dance tribute themed on “Operation Sindoor,” the missile strike carried out by India on May 7 against terror camps in Pakistan and PoK. Dancers, dressed in tricolour-themed attire, performed to the emotional song “Ye desh nahi mitne dunga,” drawing a visibly moved reaction from the Prime Minister.
The tribute was symbolic of the diaspora’s strong emotional and political alignment with India’s security decisions and their desire to remain connected with the country’s ongoing challenges and victories.
Diaspora interaction
Addressing the community, Prime Minister Modi expressed heartfelt appreciation:
“Members of Brazil’s Indian community gave a very vibrant welcome in Rio de Janeiro. It’s amazing how they remain connected with Indian culture and are also very passionate about India’s development!”
Vijay Solanki, a Gujarati expatriate in Brazil, remarked:
“We are very excited and feel privileged and honoured to welcome our Prime Minister today.”
Pooja, another attendee from Gujarat, added:
“I am from Gujarat, and I have been living in Brazil for the last three years. I am very excited to meet him.”
The atmosphere was festive, emotional, and patriotic—an unmistakable symbol of the global Indian identity.
Looking ahead
During his stay, Prime Minister Modi will participate in high-level BRICS discussions focused on strategic topics such as artificial intelligence, climate change, and global health equity. Following the summit in Rio, he will head to Brasília for bilateral meetings with Brazilian President Lula da Silva, where key areas like defence cooperation, agricultural innovation, energy security, and digital trade are expected to be discussed.
This visit is part of a broader diplomatic tour spanning five nations, with earlier stops in Ghana, Trinidad & Tobago, and Argentina, and a concluding leg in Namibia. The resounding welcome in Brazil not only highlighted the diaspora’s affection for India but also reflected India’s growing influence across the Global South.
