Modi-Putin Summit Scheduled For December 5
Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit India on December 4–5 for the 23rd India–Russia Annual Summit. This will be his first in-person meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi this year. The visit follows continued high-level engagement between the two sides across defence, energy and trade.
Multiple MoUs Likely Across Key Sectors
Several Memorandums of Understanding are expected to be signed during the summit. These may cover defence cooperation, nuclear energy, trade expansion, mobility agreements, Arctic collaboration and technology partnerships. Both governments describe the summit as an opportunity to strengthen their “special and privileged strategic partnership.”
Defence Talks On The Agenda
Officials indicate that discussions may include India’s interest in additional air-defence systems and ongoing cooperation on platforms like the Su-57 programme. While major procurement decisions may not be finalised immediately, the summit is expected to set the direction for future negotiations.
Strategic Context And Global Issues
Modi and Putin are also likely to discuss regional security, global geopolitical developments and long-term strategic cooperation. The meeting comes at a time when India seeks balanced ties amid shifting global alliances.
