Modi, Nitish Are ‘Two Brothers’ for Bihar Women – PM
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched Bihar’s Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana via video link on September 26, 2025. Under the scheme, 75 lakh women in Bihar have been given ₹10,000 each as seed money to begin livelihood activities. The total initial disbursement is ₹7,500 crore.
Modi’s Message
In his address, Modi said that Bihar’s women now have “two brothers” — Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and himself — working for their welfare. He urged women not to let RJD and its allies return to power, citing past governance gaps in law, order, and infrastructure.
Scheme Features
The scheme is framed to support women in starting small trade or business ventures. According to official sources, after six months, beneficiaries may become eligible for additional assistance up to ₹2,00,000, based on the performance of their ventures. Training, market access, and community networks will support implementation.
Political Timing & Reaction
Analysts say the scheme’s timing, ahead of Bihar’s assembly elections, gives it political significance. Modi’s remarks against RJD and linking the scheme to women’s security amplify electoral messaging. Some observers warn that effective oversight and transparency will determine whether the benefits reach intended women, especially in remote areas.
